Tamba Sangh Women’s Tamang Selo Damphu Group

The musical tradition of Tamang Selo is a central part of Tamang culture, and has come to be widely known and loved throughout Nepal beyond the Tamang community as well.

Tamba songs are one of the oldest and most prized parts of the Tamang musical tradition and are an integral part of the rituals and habits that mark the course of every Tamang’s life, from birth to death.

Tamba singers sing about everything from the Tamangs’ folk tales and beliefs to daily habits, with rhythmic accompaniment from the Damphu drum. This ensemble presents a glimpse of Tamang culture and history through its music.
